Security
A taken-over production server should not give an attacker an easy way to delete or encrypt every copy.
Ransomware
A backup is not an ordinary folder of files. Snapshots and immutable copies keep earlier versions. The backup account is not the one the server uses. We watch for jumps in the amount of changed data and for copies that did not run.
- Copies that cannot be overwritten before the period ends
- Separate credentials and narrower access than production
- An alert when a copy is not made, or when data suddenly grows
Access
Named accounts, multi-factor authentication where you want it, and a log of operations. Each client has their own repository.
- Isolated repositories per client
- Limited administrative access
- A log of who restored data and when
Encryption
The copy on the way to us is encrypted. The copy on our disks is encrypted too. Traffic to the off-site copy does not pass through a console the file server looks at every day.
What you get at the end
- Separate credentials for the backup system, different from production
- An immutable copy and limits on deleting backups
- A log of who restored data and when
Let's talk about what you have today.
